Oracle’s Autonomous Cloud Database Gets a Boost with a New Dedicated Deployment Service

By | Oracle
Oracles Autonomous Database was a huge transformation in database management and cloud services. This offering provided a more hands off and automated management experience to enable companies to spend less time and energy on ongoing database management tasks and more effort on strategic development. But there were some concerns from enterprise level companies that stopped higher adoption rates. Now, Oracle is releasing more capabilities to help these enterprise level customers isolate their databases for a more customized, dedicated service. Serverless Database – The original offering, Autonomous Database Serverless, is incredibly flexible and hassle-free. The service takes care of infrastructure and maintenance needs with a minimal amount of oversight and configuration. This is great for those customers without a complicated data management system, but for enterprise level customers in need of a more customized experience, this offering proved too limited. Dedicated Database – Now Oracle is rolling out the new Dedicated Deployment service to accommodate more customization and specification. This service provides private cloud hosting within the Oracle Exadata infrastructure hosted on Oracle’s Public Cloud. This means that each customer’s private cloud space is completely isolated, giving them more flexibility when it comes to managing multiple data sources or customizing service (more…)

Data Connect: SAP Renews Commitment To Sybase

By | Dobler Consulting Newsletter
Data Connect: SAP Renews Commitment To Sybase What’s New   Last Quarter – I published a newsletter announcing the End of Mainstream Maintenance for Sybase ASE 16 and Sybase Replication Server 16 by December 31st, 2025 and for Sybase IQ 16 by December 31st, 2024. Furthermore, there was no successor release listed in the SAP internal release schedule, this left room for all kinds of speculations and assumptions that caught the attention of SAP. Their initial response with the explanation were semantic differences between End of Mainstream Maintenance and End of Life Support, although valid, did little to calm the anxiety. Last Month – SAP hosted an event in Washington DC to officially announce a Roadmap for Sybase ASE and Sybase Replication Server. This was a well-received communication and step forward in instilling confidence with the install base. Unfortunately, the way SAP publishes Roadmaps forced the documents to fall off the top placements and are difficult to find. I made it easy for you. Download the Roadmaps here.   Sybase ASE Roadmap Sybase Replication Server Roadmap   Last Week – I had a face-to-face meeting with the global SAP Leadership for database and technology. In my estimate, this was (more…)

Data Connect: Big Day for Dobler – Named Top 10 Oracle Service Provider by CIO Application Magazine

By | Dobler Consulting Newsletter
Data Connect: Big Day for Dobler – Named Top 10 Oracle Service Provider by CIO Application Magazine What’s New   In this month’s newsletter, I am pleased to announce, that Dobler Consulting has been recognized as a national “Top 10 Oracle Service Provider” by CIO Applications Magazine. This is a big day for Dobler Consulting and I want to sincerely thank all our team members and all of our clients for making this achievement possible. It was just last Spring when we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of our firms founding and I am reminded of a quote by the famous vaudeville comedian Eddie Cantor “It takes 20 years to become an overnight success.” So I guess in our accelerated world, 10 years is now the new 20, but the comedian’s sentiments are still spot-on. It takes time, it takes hard work and dedication, serious talent and a bucket of luck, to be recognized in the Top 10 in any field or any endeavor – it doesn’t happen overnight. With gratitude and humility, I want to thank all for making this Top 10 Achievement possible. Data Connect: Sybase – Strolling Down Memory Lane….

By | Dobler Consulting Newsletter
Data Connect: Sybase – Strolling Down Memory Lane…. What’s New Sybase – Strolling Down Memory Lane In April of 2010, SAP announced the purchase of Sybase. At the time there was much confusion on what to make of it. In a January 2011 Newsletter , I outlined my thoughts on what the acquisition could mean. In January of 2014, SAP dropped the Sybase name from all its acquired Sybase products to integrate them into the SAP portfolio. In the same year, there was the second to last ISUG-TECH Annual Conference in Atlanta and the emotions ran high. Read more about the name change . At this ISUG-TECH conference, SAP announced the GA of SAP ASE 16. It was a big reveal and the name change issue was quickly replaced with excitement. Fast forward: Last year SAP announced end of life for support and maintenance (no more bug fixes, security patches or enhancements) for the following products: SAP (Sybase) ASE 16: December 31st 2025 SAP (Sybase) Replication Server 16: December 31st 2025 SAP (Sybase) IQ 16.1: December 31st 2024 SAP (Sybase) SQL Anywhere 17.0: December 31st 2025 Earlier end of maintenance dates are in effect for any previous releases and many have (more…)

Machine Learning, AI and Advanced Analytics

By | Database Technology Trends
Big data is big news across industry sectors. The digital age has given rise to information overload, and the most resourceful businesses are learning how to take advantage of that information. It takes a special type of skill to gain actionable insights from these massive amounts of data, and that is where advanced analytics comes in. With technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), data-driven business insights are possible like never before. Here’s a breakdown of how these technologies really work. The Science of Advanced Analytics – Traditional analytics refers to more linear quantitative analysis, usually generated by business intelligence (BI) systems. These are examinations of performance drawn from a structured and pre-defined framework. They use existing historical data from a database or data warehouse. With advanced analytics, we are able to follow the data without a pre-determined scope. All you need is a starting point. For example, consider the question: what type of people buy yogurt in the mornings? With traditional analysis, you would be left skimming through sales data and designing reports to cross reference yogurt sales and time of day, but that only tells you how many people have performed this action, not what type (more…)

Data Connect – First Look 2019

By | Dobler Consulting Newsletter
Data Connect – First Look 2019 Announcements First Look To 2019 As an emerging technology services firm for the past 11 years, our growth and survival has been based on two simple strategies – long-term client relationships and listening to our clients. And what we have heard from our clients over the past year, are two very strong evolving needs: The need for agile, niche-specific, custom software development by a vendor that has direct knowledge of their business and operational model. The need for a one-stop shop for licensing and updating all operational enterprise software from OS to database to applications – both internally and across the channel/client ecosystem.   In response to those needs, we are excited to announce that Dobler Consulting has launched a new custom software development practice and that we have hired Ron Hymer, a seasoned professional in software development, to lead our team. In addition, we are now also offering to strategically and efficiently update and manage all your business and enterprise software as a managed service. We understand from our customers, that licensing and upgrades must be, now more than ever, closely managed in order to capture value and efficiency for their products (more…)
