Newsletter July 2011

Focused on Database Power, Database Performance, Database Resilience

I don’t know about you, but I feel like sitting in an airplane taking off in very bad weather. Yes, the economy is improving, however there are severe turbulences happening right now and many more ahead of us. All I can say, hang in there my friends. Too many people have too much invested to let this take-off crash.

One of the indicators I use to get an idea of how strong the recovery is are job postings from locations I haven’t seen new IT jobs in years. This is not scientific, but telling. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more encouraging news.

There is one more thing I’d like to share with you. Sybase asked me to present 2 session at this year’s TechWave in Las Vegas. Although a tall order, I happily accepted the challenge. Especially this year TechWave is co-hosted with SAP TechED. 5000+ attendees will roam the conference center. The stage couldn’t be bigger. I hope I will see you there.

Thank you for being a loyal reader of my newsletter.

Dobler Consulting Is Now an ISUG Partner

To further deepen the commitment to Sybase, Dobler Consulting is now an official ISUG partner. ISUG is the worldwide community for Sybase users with a huge member base. I believe that everybody who is involved with Sybase products as a user, developer, database expert or manager should be part of this community. Basic membership is free, which is almost unheard of for a worldwide professional association like ISUG.

Bottom-line, the more members ISUG can attract the more influential it gets and this transfers directly to you. With your feedback and product enhancement request, ISUG is in a position to make your word heard by Sybase.

As long time member of ISUG and advocate for its cause, becoming a partner was a logical step. Starting in October of last year, Dobler Consulting is hosting the Tampa Bay ISUG meetings and since the re-launch we got into a rhythm of having a meeting every other month. The next meeting is scheduled August 11th and we will have an afternoon session with PowerBuilder and its roadmap, followed by an evening session on Sybase 15.7. Details will be released as soon as the schedule and agenda are confirmed.

Please visit the ISUG website at http://www.isug.com and if you’re not a member, sign up today.

New Team Member

I can proudly announce that a new member has joined the Dobler team. Mark Gearhart is a long time Sybase consultant and published author. Recently his articles are being published by the ISUG magazine.

Mark has extensive experience in Sybase ASE and Sybase Replication Server as well as being an outstanding Flex and Flash developer. His roots go as far back as implementing the very first GA for Sybase Replication Server.

Please visit Mark’s website at http://www.mgearhart.com/sybase/?p=9 to learn more about Mark and his accomplishments.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Mark.
