Overview
DBA Managed Services (DBAMS) is a new variation if the already existing remote DBA concept.
The basic concept of a remote DBA support is to lower the cost of database administration. The target market was always within companies that already had internal DBA resources and needed to cut cost without cutting services. The remote DBA concept and outsourcing are essential the same.
The DBA Managed Services approach has a completely different target market. DBAMS is geared towards small and medium businesses who have a one or more applications running on one or more servers. On the surface these applications seem to have nothing in common with any DBA needs at all.
This perception quickly changes in a crisis situation when data loss is occurring and these small and medium businesses are on the brink of disaster.
Good luck in finding database experts in the Yellow Pages. Even if you find a database expert, what could this expert do without the in-depth information how the system should look like.
As a SMB owner you should ask yourself these couple of questions and if you have any doubts in only one of these questions, you probably need DBAMS.
- Do you know if your database backups are working in a crisis situation?
- Are
you sure that the supplied "database maintenance" scripts of the application(s) you're using are working and doing its job?
- Do you really need to buy this new expensive server because the application is slow?
If you don't have a concrete answer to any of the questions above you should consider talking to us as soon as possible.
Concept
DBA Managed Services is essentially an insurance policy for small and medium sized businesses. 3 levels of services cover almost all database needs and budget constraints.
All 3 levels of the DBAMS share one common ground. The foundation of a successful DBAMS implementation is a complete and comprehensive database and system assessment. This assessment document serves as disaster recovery guide, fundamental system information for any DBA task performed on the system(s) and as a baseline for future system enhances.
